Resistant vineyards to enrich the ampelographic landscape amid climate change, pathogens, and Xylell

Introducing resistant grape varieties to cope with climate change and the increased virulence of certain pathogens, including Xylella, a bacterium traditionally associated with olive groves but which, as we have seen, is also capable of infecting vines.
This is one of the challenges facing the wine sector, with the aim of expanding the ampelographic platform in a changing and evolving world.
Researchers, operators, and representatives of industry associations will discuss this at Enoliexpo in a round table discussion which, in the spirit of innovation, will also offer interesting insights into how to better promote the territory of reference in the appellations. The event is scheduled for the morning of Saturday, March 21, 2026.

Speakers from the research sector will include Laura Rustioni, associate professor of tree cultivation at Unisalento, specializing in viticulture; Pierpaolo Miglietta, also an associate professor at Unisalento in the Viticulture and Enology degree program; and Giulio Paolo Anusdei, professor of agri-food marketing and food and wine tourism at Unipegaso. They will be joined by Donato Boscia, former director of the Bari branch of the CNR Institute for Sustainable Plant Protection, Rosario Centonze, president of the Regional Federation of Agronomists and Foresters, Leonardo Palumbo of Assoenologi, representatives of Italian sommelier associations, and several protection consortia.

A rich parterre to take stock of the wine situation and understand what prospects and opportunities may open up for operators in the supply chain.

The olive grower of the 21st century: challenges and opportunities

What characteristics must a 21st-century olive grower have? What challenges do they face, and what opportunities are available to them? How can they interact to change a paradigm in which their role today appears almost secondary to that of the olive tree?
